For youngsters, going to a carnival, amusement park, or party is an exciting, if not overwhelming, experience. There is a lot to do, and it is up to the adults to make sure that as much fun as possible is had by the children. Therefore, as an artist who is doing kids face painting, it is necessary to make sure you give them a design that will most suit their personality.

One of the first things to consider when deciding what design to paint is the age of the person being painted. Babies are probably not going to sit still very long, so nothing too intricate should be chosen. For those who are old enough to appreciate the design, you want to make sure it is something that makes them feel cool or pretty.

This brings us to the next thing to consider–the gender of the child. Animal designs are fairly gender neutral and can probably be appreciated by both boys and girls. However, boys might like dinosaurs and superheroes, whereas girls might rather have butterflies and princess designs on their faces.

Finally, it is a good idea to try to use cues to pick up on their interests. Take note if the child is holding a toy or wearing a shirt with a design on it. This will help to decide what types of things they might like to see most on their faces. If a girl has butterflies on her shirt, give her a large wing on either side of her face. If a boy is wearing a certain superhero, make him look like the hero!

It is fairly easy to do kids face painting as they will likely be more pleased with the novelty than picky about the design. As the artist, just make sure to have fun with what you are doing and the children will follow suit. However, it is always a good idea to consider age, gender, and interests to get inspiration for what to paint.
